Recipient enlisted in the 14th Regt., on 21-12-1854, aged 18. Promoted Corporal 26-2-1856 and Sergeant 29-8-1859/ On 1-9-1861 he transferred to 1/West India Regt., and was promoted Company Sgt. Major on the same date. On 1-1-1865 he was appointed Regimental Sgt. Major, and on 8-5-1867 was commissioned Ensign in the Regiment. Promoted Lieut. 5-4-1871. Captain 24-3-1877. Paymaster 2/W.I. Regt. 26-6-1878. Hon. Major 22-6-1883. Staff Paymaster (Woolwich) 11-11-1884. Hon. Lt. Colonel 11-11-1891. Retired 21-12-1896.Colonel, retired pay 18-10-1902. District Staff Paymaster, A.P.D. Woolwich District (Substantive Colonel, retiring with Honorary Rank of Lt. Colonel. C. 1905) Died 15-4-1911. Served in Crimea Oct. 1855 - May 1856. Condition and Grading of Medals


Mint = In as new condition as issued by the Mint.
EF = Extremely Fine, in an almost unworn condition.
NEF = Nearly Extremely Fine.
GVF = Good Very Fine.
VF = Very Fine, slight wear on the high points of the design, surface marks from contact.
NVF = Nearly Very Fine.
GF = Good Fine.
F  = Fine, slight wear overall, surface marks and perhaps edge knocks.
